George Hedges HHS Class of 1973 wrote this:

The above photo was taken by my uncle George of Private Brooks in 1917 at Camp McClellan.  He was KIA on October 25, 1918, either the same day or day after Doremus was KIA. 

My research turned up a letter from 1921 written by his mother telling about her son.  She mentioned a newspaper article (below) that had a story about her son being KIA. 

Despite much research, I could not find any newspaper article about him until recently.  Ironically, the PATERSON MORNING CALL newspaper February 15, 1919, published a letter that my Uncle George wrote to Private Brook’s mother.  It was very touching.  I will send that letter separately.  Since my uncle George was a 1st Sgt, he wrote many letters to the parents of soldier who were KIA.  After Capt. Doremus was KIA, my Uncle George took command of the company (50 men that was a company of 200 just 2 weeks earlier) as all the officers were casualties.
